Over and above her role as a member of the Dow Middle East Innovation Center (MEIC) Research and Development team, Alsomali engages in many activities both within Dow and externally that support her achieving this prestigious award. These include being STEM focal point for Dow in Saudi Arabia, where she helps in inspiring students to find their passion in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. She is also vice president for communications for the Saudi Arabia alumni chapter at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and an active member of several organizations, including the American Society for Microbiology and the Islamic Psychology Society. She is also a consulting member of the What Doctors Don’t Tell You (WDDTY) Arabic magazine.
To achieve this award, candidates are reviewed by a jury comprising senior professionals from across the globe using criteria that include: Building a Sustainable Leadership Pipeline in Organizations, Gender Specific Specialization at Work, Empowerment, Social Change and Ability to Influence.
Alsomali joined Dow in 2017. She has served as a research assistant at the U.S. National Institutes of Health. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in medical laboratory technology from King Abdulaziz University, a Master’s in biotechnology from The Catholic University of America, and a Ph.D. in bioscience (microbial genomics) from KAUST.
